Staying Power: Doreen

In our blog series on the "staying power" of longtime RESCUE! employees, we turn the spotlight on Doreen. Our Lead Associate Scientist is a vital part of making sure our products do what we say they will do.

Doreen is a Lead Associate Scientist for RESCUE! Pest Control Products. What is your title? Lead Associate Scientist.

Since you've been at RESCUE!, have your job responsibilities changed? Yes! I started out as an intern in the Eastern U.S., so my responsibilities have changed significantly -- from conducting fieldwork only, to the supervision of other researchers & technicians who now conduct the fieldwork and laboratory tests.

What do you enjoy about your job? In short, playing with “bugs”! Growing up in a rural community in Western PA, I always enjoyed being outside and enjoying nature.

What do you like about the company? I like the value placed on the research of every product we manufacture. We study the insects and learn their behavior. Then we do extensive research to make sure the product is going to work before we sell it to the consumer.  I am not so sure that other products on the market have invested as much time, effort and resources to come up with a product that works before it is sold. But thorough testing and evaluation is a very important part of RESCUE! products.

When you were first hired, did you ever think you’d be at RESCUE! this long? NO! I was hired back in 2000 as a summer/fall intern, then left to pursue other avenues closer to my family and friends.  But, I kept getting called to see if I wanted to move clear across the  U.S. to work as a scientist. After two other jobs, I decided to return as a permanent scientist in our Research & Development Department.  I guess, in this case, three times asking me was a charm for me to accept the job.

What kind of changes have you seen at RESCUE! over the time you’ve been here? There have been a lot of changes! From when I started as an intern in a smaller office building in a different location, to taking over almost two full buildings in an industrial park, the company has grown immensely in space, personnel, and products. The lab has changed a lot too -- with new equipment, technology, and department personnel for a high level of research to make RESCUE! products the best we can for the consumer.

What makes RESCUE! a special place to work? The company continually works to give back to the community. Through volunteer programs or supporting local charities and organizations, the company and personnel strive to get involved in the community to help wherever or whenever we can.
