How to Choose the Right RESCUE!® Fly Trap for Your Outdoor Space

Not all fly problems are the same—and that’s exactly why RESCUE!® offers several different fly trap options. If you’ve ever wondered which fly trap is right for your yard, farm, or outdoor space, this guide will help you narrow it down.

(Be sure to watch the video above for a full walkthrough and visual comparisons.)

First Things First: Outdoor Use Only

RESCUE!® Fly Traps are designed specifically for outdoor use. They use highly effective attractants that flies find irresistible. Because of the strong odor, these traps should never be used indoors or in enclosed spaces like garages. If flies are an indoor issue, we offer separate solutions designed just for that purpose.

Disposable vs. Reusable: Which Fits Your Style?

One of the main decisions is whether you want a disposable or reusable fly trap.

  • Disposable fly traps are all about convenience. They come pre-baited—just add water, hang them outside, and let them do the work. When the trap is full, simply toss it in your outdoor trash.

  • Reusable fly traps are a great option if you want to reduce waste or save money over time. When full, they can be emptied into outdoor trash or compost, then recharged with an attractant refill to keep trapping flies.

Match the Trap Size to Your Fly Problem

All RESCUE!® Fly Traps cover roughly the same area—about 1,800 square feet, or the size of an average backyard. The key difference is capacity, or how many flies the trap can hold before it needs attention.

  • Mild fly issues or small yards: one of our disposable or reusable fly traps is usually enough.

  • Moderate to heavy fly activity: Homes with multiple pets, small livestock, or nearby fly sources will benefit from higher-capacity options like the Big Bag Fly Trap or POP! Fly Trap, which need less frequent emptying.

  • Severe fly infestations: For barns, horse stables, pig pens, or large chicken coops, Fly Trap MAX offers the largest capacity and is built to handle serious fly populations.

Feeding Flies to Chickens?

While we don’t recommend feeding flies caught in standard fly traps to livestock, there is a solution if that’s your goal. The Fly Bucket Top works with a reusable or POP! Fly Trap and fits on a standard 5-gallon bucket—allowing captured flies to be safely fed to chickens or other animals.
