Payroll Accountant

SUMMARY

The position of Payroll Accountant will perform both high-level payroll processing and accounting duties, working with multiple departments to facilitate biweekly payroll processing and general accounting functions including transactions, reconciliation, monthly closing, general ledger, fixed assets, and internal reporting, among other duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • PayrollBi-weekly payroll processing including general ledger entries, job and project code tracking, and reporting using HRIS & Benefits platform. Assure system setup, maintenance, and reconciliation of payroll-related items. Reconciliation, monitoring, and reporting of benefit deductions such as 401k and Section 125 benefits. Review information accuracy in HRIS for new hires and changes in the payroll system including earnings, deductions, benefits, tax status, and miscellaneous changes. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant payroll taxation laws, garnishments, and benefits transactions with adherence to established standards and company policy.
  • Accounting & FinanceDemonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assist the Finance department in month-end close, AP, and fixed or in-process construction of production equipment assets related to payroll and job costing. Prefer broad accounting knowledge with ability to contribute to other accounting tasks.
  • Communication Participate in a team environment, analyze and interpret data and reports, present findings, and suggest resolutions. Point of contact for payroll, project, transactional, and accounting questions. Seek and advocate new methods to improve and support our Processes and People.
  • Other DutiesSpecial projects and ad hoc reports as assigned for internal decisionmaking. Willingness to cross train in other areas as required. Abide by company policies and exemplify Sterling International’s core values. Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required. 1–3 years’ experience in both payroll and accounting functions highly desirable. Professional certifications and manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt, multi-task, and meet deadlines. Technologically proficient with high attention to detail. Must be an excellent communicator with desire to share knowledge, lead others, and seek learning opportunities.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
